What a Health Coach Eats in a Day
As a health and wellness coach I get this question all the time, “what do you eat?!” I can honestly say, it has taken a few years to really figure out what my body wants morning, noon and night. Of course, as women, what we eat can vary based on the time of month or lifestyle changes. Majority of the time, though, I stick to my fundamentals - heavy on the veggies, lots of healthy fats, and good quality proteins (plus lots of treats.)
Before I tell you my daily routine, these are some guidelines I try to follow: Have breakfast or a small meal within an hour of waking (great for hormones, ladies!); limited sugar (or at least not late in the day); protein with every meal; and no caffeine after 2pm.
With that in mind, here is what I usually eat or something similar:
Morning
7:30-8:30 am I like to start with something warm, usually warm water with lemon. If I’m running late or need something quick, I will have my overnight chai seed pudding with Cocojune yoghurt, berries, flaxseeds, cinnamon, and Manuka Honey.
10 am If I need a snack before lunch, I love having some homemade humus with carrot sticks and seed crackers.
Lunch time
12-1 pm During the work week, you can catch me at a salad bar if I’m not enjoying leftovers from the night before. A typical salad for me is arugula, leafy greens, zucchini noodles, shredded beets, red cabbage, cucumber, olives, shredded chicken, and chickpeas. For a little treat and sweet fix, I’ll have a GT Multi Greens Kombucha.
Mid-day pick me up
1:30 pm Since the afternoon slumber is real, I’ll make a matcha latte to keep me going. I use Pique Tea Matcha, MALK almond milk, cinnamon, and bit of honey.
P.S. I drink lots of water throughout the day. I’ll had a bit of sea salt and lemon for natural electrolytes.
Evening
5:30-6:30 pm Dinner is mine and my husbands favorite time to reconnect and catch up after busy days. Even if I’m tired, we always prefer cooking rather than carry-out. To keep it simple, I might do roasted chicken thighs or cast-iron salmon with roasted broccolini with garlic and wild rice with sautéed mushrooms.
Late night treat
7:30 pm After dinner I almost always have tea - right now I’m enjoying a mint or hibiscus. If I want a little treat, I’ll have a few Medjool dates with almond butter and chocolate. Try it, you’ll love it!
I believe eating has to be enjoyable but also suitable for your body and its unique wants and needs. This is what I’ve found works for me and allows me to have sustainable energy, clarity, and focus throughout the day. Let me know what you love to eat and also your favorite treats!
